IN THE HOTEL ROOM
NARRATOR:
To be stuck in a time warp and always to wake up on April 31st at seven o'clock in the morning is most certainly a curse, but sometimes it can be a blessing. Yesterday on April 31st, Harry was sitting in a psychiatric clinic. It certainly didn't look as if, under normal circumstances, he would ever find himself at liberty again. But …
WEATHER FORECASTER:
In ganz Deutschland ist das Wetter heute sehr wechselhaft. Am Abend gibt es starke Unwetter mit Regen, Blitz und Donner. Das Zentrum des Unwetters liegt in Niederangelbach im Schwarzwald.
HARRY:
Did you hear that? What's that?
NARRATOR:
The weather forecast. They're talking about storms here in the Schwarzwald.
HARRY:
Be quiet!
WEATHER FORECASTER:
Das Wetter spielt auch andernorts verrückt. In Hamburg schneit es sogar. Die Temperaturen sinken am Nachmittag von 27 Grad auf 2 Grad Celsius. Ziehen Sie sich also warm an.
NARRATOR:
Snow in Hamburg! Crazy!
HARRY:
I'm not talking about that. I've never heard this weather forecast before. Noch nie! Never before. That means my day isn't repeating itself any more. I've got out of that damn time warp.
NARRATOR:
I don't like to disappoint you, Harry, but you simply slept through the first bit.
HARRY:
Really?
NARRATOR:
Ja, es ist sieben Uhr zehn.
HARRY:
Well, if you had been pumped full of psychiatric drugs.
NARRATOR:
Julia's text message is already here!
HARRY:
Yes! Julia! She's the one who got me into this whole mess in the first place. She's got to help me! Sie muss helfen!
NARRATOR:
But you've got no idea where she is. Or have I missed something?
HARRY:
But I know who Julia will call, the witch who's cursed me – die Hexe!
NARRATOR:
The woman is a doctor, Harry – Ärztin, die Ärztin.
AT THE DOCTOR'S HOUSE
NARRATOR:
You don't want to break into her house again, do you?
HARRY:
I'll be well out of the way before the witch gets back.
IN THE DOCTOR'S HOUSE
HARRY:
She's just about to phone. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
HARRY:
Julia! You witch! Du Hexe! Get me out of here. Sofort!
NARRATOR:
Bravo. Even your mother would have hung up after that.
HARRY:
Well, it needed to be said. Anyway, tomorrow is another day.
IN THE DOCTOR'S HOUSE
JULIA:
Hallo? Sabine? Hier ist Julia.
HARRY:
Julia, how are you?
JULIA:
Harry? Was machst du bei meiner Freundin Sabine?
HARRY:
I just wanted to say, Julia, I love you.
JULIA:
Heuchler!
HARRY:
Please.
JULIA:
Mistkerl! Vollidiot!
HARRY:
Please.
JULIA:
Du kannst mich mal!
HARRY:
Women! I even tell her that I love her, and then she lays into me.
NARRATOR:
Perhaps you should try it in German. As a sign of your new awareness.
HARRY:
I see, that's an idea.
IN THE DOCTOR'S HOUSE
HARRY:
Julia, hallo! Hier spricht Harry. Wie geht es dir?
JULIA:
Harry? Du? Aber ...
HARRY:
Ja, ich bin es, dein Harry, dein Freund. Your little bear. Dein Bär!
JULIA:
Es heißt Bärchen.
HARRY:
Wie bitte?
JULIA:
Bärchen!
HARRY:
Oh yes, of course, Bärchen. I know that's a nickname. It's the way of making the word 'bear' into 'little bear'.
NARRATOR:
But perhaps more useful to you now: der Schatz – das Schätzchen.
HARRY:
Julia, mein Schatz, mein Schätzchen. Ich vermisse du … dir …
NARRATOR:
… dich – I miss you.
HARRY:
Julia, ich vermisse dich!
JULIA:
Du vermisst mich? Harry, das hast du noch nie gesagt!
HARRY:
Bitte, Julia, ich liebe dich. Ich brauche dich.
JULIA:
Du brauchst mich? Als Dolmetscherin vielleicht. Oder als Blitzableiter für deine schlechte Laune!
HARRY:
Ich verstehe dich nicht.
NARRATOR:
She says, at the most, you need her as an interpreter or as a lightning conductor for your bad moods.
HARRY:
Nein, ich liebe dich! Du bist meine Frau!
JULIA:
Ich? Deine Frau?
HARRY:
We want to marry.
JULIA:
Du bist nicht mein Mann. Du willst mich gar nicht heiraten!
HARRY:
But of course! Doch! Wir wollen heiraten! We want to marry!
JULIA:
Heiraten? Das ist mir neu.
HARRY:
The important thing is that we love each other. You and me, we're a super team, I mean a fantastic couple.
JULIA:
Ein Team? Ein Liebespaar? Harry, hast du getrunken?
HARRY:
Have I drunk too much? Nein. Ich bin verzweifelt! Really desperate. Bitte, Julia. You've got to tell the witch to get me out of this. I can't stand this time warp any longer.
JULIA:
Zeitschleife? Unsinn, Harry!
HARRY:
Nonsense?
JULIA:
Du redest Unsinn. Wie immer.
HARRY:
I'm talking crazy? How can you say that? You know precisely what's happening to me. You're to blame for it. So come back and make it stop.
JULIA:
Du spinnst, Harry! Ich habe die Schnauze voll von dir!
HARRY:
Mist!
NARRATOR:
She's had enough of you.
HARRY:
Did you hear that? This hooting in the background. Where on earth is she?
NARRATOR:
No idea, but I'm afraid she's not going to help you. You're on your own, Harry.
