Prepositions of time (1)

Read the rule, and then look at the pictures and decide which time period fits with each picture.

When you ask a question using "Wann ...?", you are asking about time. If the answer refers to a point in time, you use the preposition "um". When you are referring to a period between two points in time, you use the prepositions "von" and "bis". "Von" refers to the beginning of the period and "bis" refers to the end. In formal speech, you add the word "Uhr" (hour) to the end of a time. For example: "Um neun Uhr." / "Von neun Uhr bis zwölf Uhr."
