Weather conditions in the Black Forest

It's highly unlikely to run into a flock of penguins, but it is not unusual that Harry should run into a meteorologist taking wind measurements. There are many weather stations in the Black Forest. The most important one is at the top of Feldberg mountain (height: 1,493 meters / 4,900 feet). Meteorologists have been recording their observations here since 1915. This station belongs to Germany's National Meteorological Service.

If you'd like to spend a winter vacation here, February and March are the best time to travel. During those months, the likelihood of snow is very high, and the view from the mountain is frequently so clear that you can see the Alps on the horizon. Sometimes you can even make out the outline of Mont Blanc, which is 240 kilometers away on the French-Italian border. If you prefer a sunny holiday, May and June are the perfect time to travel. That's when there's the most sunshine and the least rain. But that's not the ideal climate for penguins.
