IN THE HOTEL ROOM
NARRATOR:
Harry is trying to find his girlfriend. He's convinced that only she can rescue him from his desperate situation. He's not only stuck, alone and lonely, in a German hotel, he also wakes up every morning on the same Wednesday. His Wednesday. Harry is trapped in time.
WEATHER FORECASTER:
Guten Morgen, heute ist Mittwoch, der 31. April ...
HARRY:
If I hurry, I'll make it.
NARRATOR:
What will you make?
HARRY:
I'll get to the station by 8:50. Um 8 Uhr 50 fährt der Zug nach Hamburg. And Julia is sitting in that train.
NARRATOR:
Und wie kommst du so schnell zum Bahnhof?
HARRY:
Ich nehme ein Taxi zum Bahnhof. They've got a taxi in this dump, don't you remember?
NARRATOR:
Yes. But it'll drive straight into the tree - gegen den Baum.
IN FRONT OF THE HOTEL
HEINZ:
Die Welt ist verrückt! Das Ende ist nah!
HARRY:
Okay. Hallo, Taxi!
TAXI DRIVER (DIALECT):
Hallo! Guten Morgen!
HARRY:
Guten Morgen.
TAXI DRIVER (DIALECT):
Wohin möchten Sie?
HARRY:
Darf ich fahren? Ich zahle das Doppelte.
NARRATOR:
You're going to pay double, if you can drive yourself?
HARRY:
Yes, I'd prefer to arrive at the station alive, if possible.
TAXI DRIVER:
Das möchten Sie machen?
HARRY:
Sehr gerne!
TAXI DRIVER:
Das ist ja toll! Ich bin nämlich sehr müde, weil ich die ganze Nacht Taxi gefahren bin.
Wirklich sehr, sehr müde.
NARRATOR:
He says he's tired because he's been driving his taxi all night.
HARRY:
That explains quite a lot!
AT THE STATION/AT THE TICKET WINDOW
STATION ANNOUNCEMENT:
Auf Gleis sieben fährt ein: der Intercity 36 von Mainz über Heidelberg. Auf Gleis drei bitte zurückbleiben, die Türen schließen automatisch. Vorsicht bei der Abfahrt.
NARRATOR:
Look, there's the ticket window - der Fahrkartenschalter.
HARRY:
Oh yes. Guten Morgen!
TICKET CLERK:
Guten Morgen. Was kann ich für Sie tun?
HARRY:
Eine Fahrkarte nach Hamburg, bitte!
TICKET CLERK:
Einfach oder hin und zurück?
HARRY:
Oh, Entschuldigung, ich verstehe nicht!
TICKET CLERK:
Fahren Sie nur nach Hamburg oder auch zurück?
NARRATOR:
Hinfahrt like Hinflug. It's the same as at the airport: You travel there and back - hin und zurück.
HARRY:
Got it! Nur eine Hinfahrt.
TICKET CLERK:
Erste Klasse oder zweite Klasse?
NARRATOR:
I'd recommend first class. But second class is cheaper.
HARRY:

TICKET CLERK:

HARRY:

NARRATOR:
Eine Bahncard. If you have a card like that you get a reduction in ticket prices throughout the German rail network.
HARRY:

TICKET CLERK:

HARRY:
Of course I want to reserve a seat. Ja, bitte.
TICKET CLERK:
Im Abteil oder im Großraumwagen?
HARRY:

NARRATOR:

HARRY:

TICKET CLERK:

HARRY:

TICKET CLERK:
Oh! Warum haben Sie das denn nicht gleich gesagt? Sie müssen sich beeilen!
NARRATOR:
You'd better hurry!
TICKET CLERK:
Der Zug fährt in drei Minuten.
NARRATOR:

HARRY:

TICKET CLERK:

IN THE TRAIN
HARRY:
Julia isn't here either. Oh Mist! How long is this train?
NARRATOR:
Perhaps she's sitting in the restaurant car - im Bordrestaurant?
HARRY:

HARRY:

JULIA:
Harry? Was machst du denn hier?
HARRY:

Hey, aren't you going to introduce yourself too?
HARRY:
I have to look after Julia. Julia, I have flowers for you!
JULIA:
Du bringst mir Blumen mit? Das hast du noch nie gemacht.
HARRY:
Julia, I know I've behaved quite abominably to you and so I want to apologize.
JULIA:
Du willst dich entschuldigen?
HARRY:
Ja! Entschuldigung, Julia. I've made mistakes.
JULIA:
Ja.
HARRY:
Ich habe Fehler gemacht. And I have behaved quite stupidly during our bike ride.
JULIA:

HARRY:

JULIA:

HARRY:
