IN THE HOTEL ROOM
NARRATOR:
As on every other morning, Harry is lying on his bed in a hotel in the Black Forest. Today is once more Wednesday, April 31st. But today he's not alone. A little penguin has latched onto him. It's spent the night with him. Obviously it just can't wait to get on with a new day. You've got a visitor! Your penguin!
HARRY:
Welcher Pinguin?
NARRATOR:
I'm very happy that you found a friend, Harry. But do you really have to take the penguin to bed with you?
HARRY:
Ach so, dieser Pinguin. Guten Morgen. Did you sleep well?
NARRATOR:
He's obviously waiting for the weather forecast as eagerly as you are.
HARRY:
Oh yes, the weather forecast. Guten Morgen, heute ist Mittwoch, der 31. April, sieben Uhr. Here we go!
WEATHER FORECAST:
Und wieder einmal wünsche ich einen guten Morgen.
HARRY:
Hey!
WEATHER FORECAST:
Und damit wie üblich ein Blick auf das Wetter: In ganz Deutschland ist das Wetter tagsüber wechselhaft.
HARRY:
Hey!
WEATHER FORECAST:
Am Abend gibt es starke Unwetter. Es regnet, es blitzt und es donnert.
HARRY:
Did you hear that?
NARRATOR:
'Es regnet, es blitzt und es donnert'. es - it - replaces the subject in the sentence, because there's no-one who actually makes the rain, lightning and thunder. So you say in German es regnet - it's raining.
HARRY:
Hey, don’t you hear it?
NARRATOR:

HARRY:
The weather forecast has changed.
NARRATOR:
And so what?
HARRY:
That means that the weather forecaster is also stuck in the time warp!
NARRATOR:
That's correct.
HARRY:
Hang on! I’ve got to find out what this weather forecaster knows. How did she get into this time warp? How long has she been in it? Perhaps she knows how to get out!
NARRATOR:
And where do you want to meet her?
HARRY:
Where I've met her before - in the forest, not far from here. Komm, Pinguin! Wir gehen in den Wald. Spazieren.
IN THE FOYER
HOTELIER:
Ah, willkommen! Guten Morgen! Ich heiße … Hallo? Hallo, warten Sie!
NARRATOR:
Harry, warte! The hotelier wants something from you.
HARRY:
Oh, he wants to say hello. Just like every morning. That's clear.
KIDS:
Wie heißt du, Pinguin?
HARRY:
Guten Morgen!
HOTELIER:

KIDS:
Wo kommst du her?
HOTELIER:
Ich heiße Thomas Strobel. Wie heißen Sie?
HARRY:
Ich heiße Harry Walkott. Und das ist mein Pinguin!
HOTELIER:
Entschuldigung, Pinguine dürfen nicht im Hotel übernachten.
HARRY:

HOTELIER:
Tut mir leid, Herr Walkott. Der Pinguin muss das Hotel verlassen.
KIDS:
Der Pinguin soll bleiben! Der Pinguin soll bleiben!
HARRY:

HOTELIER:
Nein, bedaure! Der Pinguin darf nicht bleiben, er muss verschwinden.
KIDS:

HARRY:

HOTELIER:

NARRATOR:
Forbidden. Pets are not allowed in the hotel.
HARRY:
I don't care. Ich muss jetzt gehen. Helen won't be in the forest for ever. Herr Strobel, morgen ist der Pinguin weg.
HOTELIER:
Gut, von mir aus! Ich will nicht herzlos sein. Der Pinguin darf bleiben, aber nur eine Nacht.
HARRY:
Danke, Herr Strobel!
HOTELIER:
Morgen muss er weg sein. Versprochen, Herr Walkott?
HARRY:
Yes, promise! Versprochen!
HOTELIER:
Aber wirklich nur eine Nacht!
HARRY:
One night is quite enough for someone who doesn't know a tomorrow.
BOY:
Herr Walkott, dürfen wir mit dem Pinguin spielen?
HARRY:
If the penguin doesn't mind. Why not? Ja, ihr dürft mit dem Pinguin spielen. Aber Vorsicht!
KIDS:
Ja.
GIRL:
Komm, süßer Pinguin!
BOY:
Wir spielen Verstecken.
NARRATOR:
Hide and seek? Would you like to join them?
IN FRONT OF THE HOTEL
TAXI DRIVER (DIALECT):
Taxi? Brauchen Sie ein Taxi?
HARRY:
Nein!
NARRATOR:
You want to walk to the forest? I didn't imagine you were so sporty.
HARRY:
Oh, what's a few meters?
NARRATOR:
Kilometers! But if you say so.
HEINZ:
Die Welt ist verrückt! Das Ende ist nah!
HARRY:
Ja, Heinz!
IN THE FOREST
HARRY:
Where is Helen? I don't understand. Helen war hier. Right here is where I met her.
NARRATOR:
Harry, I don't like having to say this, but why should Helen be here today as well? You haven't been here every day, have you?
HARRY:

NARRATOR:
