IN THE HOTEL ROOM

NARRATOR:
Harry Walkott is still sleeping. But he has earned his rest. He's had two tough days: His girlfriend abandoned him in the popular Black Forest vacation area. He was struck by lightning and his day seems to repeat itself, down to the tiniest detail.

WEATHER FORECASTER:
Guten Morgen, heute ist Mittwoch, der 31. April, sieben Uhr, zuerst das Wetter.

HARRY:
No, oh, not again!

NARRATOR:
Did you hear that? Wednesday again, Mittwoch!

HARRY:
Perhaps they only have one day of the week in Germany: Mittwoch.

NARRATOR:
A text message. I bet it's your girlfriend wishing you a nice day.

HARRY:
'Schönen Tag noch.' She can't think of anything new to say?

NARRATOR:
Harry, your day is already beginning to repeat itself.

HARRY:
Nein, it certainly is not! A day cannot repeat itself. It must have something to do with me. I just have to behave differently, then different things will happen.

NARRATOR:
If you think so ...

IN THE HOTEL FOYER

HOTELIER:
Ah, willkommen! Guten Morgen!

NARRATOR:
The hotelier … I think you know the conversation.

HOTELIER:
Ich heiße ...

HARRY:
Thomas Strobel. Ja, ja, ja, guten Morgen!

NARRATOR:
What do you bet: He'll ask you what your name is.

HOTELIER:
Wie ...

HARRY:
Ich heiße Harry Walkott.

HOTELIER:
Ah, Herr Walkott! Wie geht es Ihnen?

HARRY:
Gut, gut, gut! Wie geht es Ihnen?

HOTELIER:

Oh danke, gut. Woher kommen Sie?

HARRY:

Where I come from? Ähm, ich komme aus Traponia.

HOTELIER:
Herr Walkott, das Frühstück ist fertig.

HARRY:
Das Frühstück? Gut!

HOTELIER:
Ja, das Frühstück ist sehr gut!

HARRY:
Okay, danke! You see? It's all got to do with me! If I behave differently, different things happen. I've never been in the breakfast room!

IN THE BREAKFAST ROOM

WAITRESS:
Guten Morgen!

GUEST:
Guten Morgen.

WAITRESS:
Was möchten Sie?

GUEST:
Ein  Brötchen  mit  Käse und Kaffee bitte!

WAITRESS:
Kommt sofort!

NARRATOR:
Harry, you're putting your head in the sand!

HARRY:
No, I'm having breakfast. I haven't eaten anything for two days!

WAITRESS:
Guten Morgen, was möchten Sie?

HARRY:
What I'd like? Most of all, I'd like to leave this country.

WAITRESS:
Wie bitte?

HARRY:
I need a roll. Brötchen, das Brötchen bitte!

WAITRESS:
Ein Brötchen?

HARRY:
Ein Brötchen … das Brötchen? What's the difference?

NARRATOR:
The article! You don't want this roll, you just want one roll.

HARRY:
Okay … ein Brötchen!

WAITRESS:
Noch etwas?

HARRY:
And an egg, and milk. Das Ei und die Milch!

NARRATOR:
Which egg and which milk would you like?

HARRY:
Okay, okay, ein Ei und eine Milch!

WAITRESS:
Und ein Brötchen? Nur ein Brötchen?

NARRATOR:
Are you sure you just want one roll? I thought you're hungry!

HARRY:
You're right. Oh, and I can count to ten, no problem! Eins, zwei, drei, vier, fünfsechs, sieben, acht, neun, zehn!

WAITRESS:
Zehn? Zehn Brötchen?

HARRY:
Nein, nein, nein! Eins, zwei … drei Brötchen! Three are quite enough.

WAITRESS:
Also drei Brötchen, ein Ei und eine Milch?

HARRY:
Ja, bitte!

WAITRESS:
Kommt sofort!

HARRY:
And one coffee! I'm really looking forward to this.

HEINZ:
Die Welt ist verrückt! Das Ende ist nah!

NARRATOR:
Look who's coming!

HARRY:
Oh, no! The crazy guy!

HEINZ:
Die Welt ist verrückt! Das Ende ist nah!

NARRATOR:
He's saying …

HARRY:
… that the world is crazy and the end is nigh, yes, yes, yes, I know, I know, I know!

HEINZ:
Die Welt ist verrückt! Das Ende ist nah!

HARRY:
Oh no. He's coming to my table! Oh, I can't cope with him. I'm off.

WAITRESS:
Hallo, das Frühstück!

HARRY:
Entschuldigung! I'm not feeling so well.

IN FRONT OF THE HOTEL

HARRY:
Now what did I say? Do you notice something?

NARRATOR:
Hm …

HARRY:
No?! Yesterday and the day before there was a taxi standing here, and today there isn't. Ha! The day is developing differently!

NARRATOR:
On the contrary, the taxi isn't here because it's exactly the time when …

HARRY:
Oh!

NARRATOR:
… it has an accident.

HARRY:
Oh, no!

NARRATOR:
Everything is happening exactly the same as yesterday and the day before. The papers will be sold out, and after that comes the storm and the lightning … der Blitz!

HARRY:
That's it! The lightning, der Blitz! Der Blitz ist schuld!

NARRATOR:
The lightning is to blame? Could well be, but ... where are you off to? Harry, hang on! The storm is coming!

HARRY:
Exactly! I'm going to let myself be struck by lightning again!

NARRATOR:
What? Are you mad?
