Selma tells Lisa about temperatures below seven degrees Celsius, dismal weather and rain – that sounds like winter in Germany. There is often snow in the mountains. In the rest of Germany, December through February is mostly cold but not white – more gray and wet. In the spring, from March to May, the temperatures are milder and the sun often shines.

Heinrich Heine once wrote: "Our summer is more of a winter painted green." If you like really hot weather, then you'll probably agree. The temperature in the shade only gets above 30°C (86°F) for a few days in the summer. The months of June, July and August are warm and dry. However in this period there are also the most storms and it can also get very cool and wet.

Usually at the beginning of fall, in September, it can turn warm and dry again. This is known as "Altweibersommer" (Indian summer). It rains more and gets colder towards the end of November.
