"W" questions are open questions that can't be answered with "yes" or "no". They begin with a question word:

Wie?
Wo?
Wohin?
Woher?
Was?

When forming questions that begin with these "W" words, the question word usually comes at the beginning. It is followed by the conjugated verb - just like in a declarative sentence.
The subject and the rest of the sentence follow the verb.
