Of course, Harry had to land in the middle of the penguin pool. After all, he is fond of these animals and wanted to have a chat with them. But he could have done that more easily – and without getting wet.
At the Münster City Zoo, penguins waddle all over the grounds daily at 2 p.m., mingling with all the visitors. Visitors are also allowed to feed the animals with fish provided by staff members. Another highlight for our time traveler is that he is allowed to feed fruit and vegetables to the elephants.
Münster Zoo is one of many zoos in Germany that captivate visitors with unique animal encounters and expansive biotope facilities. Unlike in the past, various animal groups are now kept together: Zebras, wildebeests, antelopes, and ostriches, for example, can be found playing in the Africa enclosure. Storks, cranes, and pelicans use the associated stream. Expanding the enclosures is also intended to improve the animals' living conditions.
Another interest of German zoos is species conservation. Münster Zoo, for example, is home to the International Center for Turtle Conservation. The center provides a protected habitat to save 15 Asian turtle species from extinction. But the breeding station is closed to visitors.
